The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men and Youngstown State University women successfully defended their 2005 titles at the 2006 Horizon League Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The Penguins tallied 216 points to hold off UWM in second with 205, while the Panthers scored 243 points in route to the title.
The victorious Penguins took four of the five individual honors on the women's side. Danielle Bolt earned Outstanding Running Performer honors, while Katie Betts was named Newcomer of the Year for Running events. Bethany Anderson and Coach Brian Gorby were also honored, earning Outstanding Field Performer and Coach of the Year recognition, respectively. UW-Milwaukee freshman Jenni Saarinen claimed the other individual award, as she was named Newcomer of the Year for Field Events after winning the championship in the long jump on day one.
For the men, shot put champion and YSU freshman Aaron Merrill earned Men's Newcomer of the Year for Field Events, while UWM's Adam Schleis took the newcomer honors for running events. Jarrod Davis of
UW-Milwaukee coach Pete Corfeld was named Horizon League Men's Coach of the Year.
Day two of the 2006 Horizon League Outdoor Track & Field Championships began with the conclusion of the multi-events as Loyola's Inshirah Grimes took the title in the women's heptathlon, edging out UWM's Jen Grayson in the final event with an 800m time of 2:32.70. UIC's Terell Williams won the championship in the men's decathlon, amassing 5340 total points to defeat
